Further rounds of cuts announced by Walsall Council February 2016

27th Apr 2016

It has been announced that Community Associations will be among those effected by the Walsall Council proposals for the budget cuts in May 2016. The Beechdale Library is earmarked to be closed under the Conservative Administration's budget plans, should they take overall control of the Walsall Council, following the local council elections on Thursday 5th of May 2016. There will also be a reduction of around 46% to youth funding in the Birchills, Leamore  ward which includes the Beechdale area. This will mean some of the Youth Sessions at Beechdale Lifelong Learning Centre which are currently funded by the council are under threat of closure. An alternative budget that was put forward by Labour and Liberal Democrats and passed by full council in February 2016 would save the Libraries threatened with closure. However this alternative budget has been put on hold until results of the local elections are known. If the original budgets cuts are put into action in May 2016 this will put the work and jobs of Frank F Harrison Community Association at risk. We are working hard to keep the association going and have started attending meetings with the council and partners to see how we can work smarter in these difficult times.
